ICSN Gets a New Leader

Professor Syarif Ibrahim Alqadrie, coordinator of ICSN’s most successful program, the program in West Kalimantan, will be the new leader of the Indonesian Conflict Studies Network.

After seven year at the helm, Dr. Timo Kivimäki of the NIAS—Nordic Institute of Asian Studies, stepped down on 1.6. 2006 and the ICSN moved into Indonesian hands. ICSN leadership moved to West Kalimantan, to Professor Syarif Ibrahim Alqadrie of Universitas Tanjungpura (UNTAN).

Professor Alqadrie has worked as the Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and Director of Graduate Studies programs (S2) at UNTAN.
He is often considered as the leading international expert on conflict in West Kalimantan.
The success of West Kalimantan program, with series of lectures and dialogue seminars in Pontianak, Singkawang, Sambas, Bengkayang, Sintang, Sanggau (Sanggau), Sanggau Ledo, Sanggau (Bengkayang), Ketapang and Jagoi Babang, has ensured that West Kalimantan will continue to be one of the areas of emphasis in the work of the ICSN under Professor Syarif I. Alqadrie.

Furthermore, ongoing activities will be developed in Aceh, and cooperation with Universitas Cendrawasih (Papua) and Universitas Udayana (Bali) will be further developed.
