Pontianak

The City of Pontianak have been successful in the prevention of major escalation of conflicts. However, there have been several small conflicts during the past few years and the Regency (Kabubaten) has had many major conflicts. Some analysts say that Pontianak could be the site where violence between the two largest ethnic groups, Dayaks and Malay could be triggered. Due to the bipolar ethnic setting, the danger of conflict between these communities has to be checked especially carefully. The bipolar setting could make it difficult to limit communal violence within communal borders. Instead, Dayak-Malay violence could easily spread to other regencies and trigger a province-wide ethnic conflict.
The UNTAN Graduate Studies Program in Social Sciences is based in the city of Pontianak and has three main programs there:

  • Public Administration
  • Sociology
  • Politics

Teachers in the programs include:

  • Prof. Dr. Syarif Ibrahim Alqadrie (hyperlink)
