UNPAR as an opportunity for Conflict Scholars:

Hubs

The Parahyangan Catholic University offers a pleasant environment both for visiting conflict specialists as well as students who want to enroll in conflict studies at UNPAR. The university is well-known and has the respect of the surrounding society regionally, nationally and internationally. For students, the recognition of the National Board of Accreditation (BAN) is an important consideration. Conflict studies can be practiced in various contexts and in several faculties with many know conflict specialists of the university. Faculty descriptions can be found in the Internet at www.unpar.ac.id . The UNPAR library with virtual information services also increase the attraction of the university for students and visiting scholars. For visiting scholars UNPAR guest house (WISMA UNPAR) is another attraction offering good accommodation at reasonable prices. To maximize the mutuality of benefits in cooperation between international scholars and the university, certain starting points have to be agreed upon.

  • Technical services offered in the process of achieving research permits, selecting the research site, getting transportation, etc. require resources from the university. These resources should be budgeted in the research project.
  • Senior scholars should consider giving lectures regularly during their stay. To optimize the fruitfulness of their contribution, they should study the programs of UNTAN carefully and plan their lectures together with the ICSN contact persons at UNPAR
  • PhD scholars, whose contribution as lecturers is less valuable than that of senior scholars, should consider budgeting a sufficient overhead for the institutional costs of their stay. This is especially important for scholars intending to stay for a longer field research period.
  • International students should consult their own supervisors about their research topics, instead of expecting too much free supervision time from the UNPAR staff, especially at the early stages of their studies (let alone pre-studies phase).
Scholars interested in cooperating with the UNPAR, are advised to study the ICSN pages on conflict studies in UNPAR in order to be able to propose strategies in which they could collaborate with the university in a mutually beneficial way. After that any enquiries should be directed to the relevant ICSN contact person at UNPAR.
