Parahyangan
Catholic University (UNPAR) and its rector, Dr. Pius Suratman Kartasasmita
is one of the two Indonesian full partners in the ICSN EU-Asia link
project. Due to the efficiency of its administration and project
management, UNPAR acts in many ICSN operations and projects as the
Indonesian coordinator or project holder in charge of ICSN operations.
The
vision of the University is to promote Science and Technology in
the Service of Humanity.
In
questions related to conflicts the UNPAR vision merges with the
ICSN mission where academic understanding of conflicts seeks to
contribute to positive, non-violent solutions.
The
ICSN formula of merging Northern European tradition of peace research
with the Indonesian understanding of Indonesia’s conflicts
is just one of the formulas in UNPAR conflict studies activity.
At
UNPAR, conflict studies is part of the research, teaching and community
service in several faculties and departments. Conflict is understood
not only as a macro phenomenon, on international or national levels,
but also on the micro levels of administration, economy, and social
interaction in general. This is why, instead of centralizing conflict
studies in a single centre, UNPAR conflict studies and ICSN cooperation
works through several individual hubs in various faculties and departments.
