The Department of Political Science offers basic and applied research and research-based teaching in:

• Political science
• Administrative science and organizational and management studies
• International politics

The Department produces from 60 to 70 Master's degrees each year. In the 1990s, an average of five students per year completed a Licentiate's degree, and the number of students completing a Doctor's degree has grown from an average of three or four to six each year. Vigorous research activity yields over a hundred scientific publications a year. The network of teachers and researchers covers more than one hundred universities in Finland and abroad. The Department of Political Science is the most active within the Faculty with regard to student exchange programs with foreign universities. Teaching is offered in Finnish, Swedish and English.
